I know we are just sick and tired of our lifeless and limp hair. We keep looking out for something that can make our hair grow long, thick, attractive and of course at a manageable price? When there is a new product that hits the shelves of the market every day, not sure which one to choose. With so much of confusion by getting attracted to the design of the bottle or the colours, oh my god now which one to go for! And now not sure if these shampoos will really help, so why get confused let’s start treating our hair by our self’s. How to make herbal shampoo at home:

Most of the shampoos that are available in the market have chemicals, especially an accepted contraction of sodium lauryl ether sulfate, is an anionic detergent and surfactant that is found in many personal care products. SLES is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. This detergent causes dryness of hair, hair loss and even allergic reaction to some people who are very sensitive. Let’s make our own herbal shampoo at home without adding any synthetic chemicals and just by using natural ingredients. It is not just cost-effective with the low budget, it also cleans and conditions your hair effectively and beautifully.

  1. Shikakai Shampoo.

Ingredients:

  • Shikakai -1\2 kg.
  • Soap nuts (deseeded and dried) – 100 grams.
  • Hibiscus flowers (Just the red flower alone)- 1 cup.
  • Fenugreek -150 grams.
  • Dried Lemon peels – 10.
  • Curry leaves (dried) -1 cup.
  • Green gram – 150 grams.

Let it all the ingredients dry in the sun for a week and grind it to a dry flour. This could be ground at a flour mill or could be bought has powders (organic) separately from the market. Just mix all the ingredients and start using it. Store this powder in a dry container and use it according to the length of your hair by mixing water, curd, cooked rice strained water or first wash rice water.

Just had Neem Leaves – When I was schooling I have never faced dandruff problem, lice problem or any scalp related problems, the secret behind it was Neem and Tulsi leaves. My grandmother would also add powdered neem leaves and tulsi leaves to the powdered shikkakai. As we know that Neem has powerful antiseptic properties. You could also mix Henna powder and Gooseberries powder along with Shikakai to avoid premature greying.

To avoid Shikakai from sticking to your scalp – Take required amount of Shikkakai powder, mix it with water to form a paste and cook on low flame wait until it starts thickening.  Now switch off the flame and allow it cool down. This procedure will help in avoiding the Shikakai sticking to your scalp.

  1. Herbal shampoo For Dry Scalp

 Ingredients:

  • Green gram flour OR
  • Bengal gram flour
  • buttermilk

Take a cup of green gram flour or Bengal gram flour mix it well with buttermilk. Now use it to wash your hair. Your dull hair will change to be soft, clean and shining. This works great for people with dry scalp

  1. Shampoo using Fenugreek.
  • Take two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds, add some water to it and allow it to soak overnight, now grind it to a smooth paste.
  • Next, mix it with one portion of Shikakai and 1/2 portion of green gram flour
  • Use this to wash your hair.
  1. Shampoo using Hibiscus Flower.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Hibiscus flowers (red variety only)
  • 15 hibiscus leaves

Add both the flowers and the leaves to a cup of water and boil them on a medium flame for about 5 minutes.

  • Later allow it to cool down.
  • Now grind it to a paste.
  • Mix this paste with 3 tablespoons of gram flour or as required
  • Wash your hair with this amazing paste.

You could alternatively use dry hibiscus leaves and flower powder, mix it with gram flour and use it as a shampoo to wash your hair. Maybe they do not lather like the shampoos we find in the market, but with these natural cleansers, you will not only get clean your hair but will also have a healthy and shiny long hair.

  1. Egg shampoo.

Ingredients:

  • Egg white
  • Sour curd
  • Bengal gram flour

Mix all the ingredients well and apply it on your scalp. Leave it for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. This shampoo works well for people suffering from hair fall and dandruff problem.

  1. Cooked and strained rice water

The excess water that is drained after cooking rice.

Mix this water with gram flour and wash your hair with it. It naturally cleans and conditions your hair. It gives a glossy look when used regularly. This water could also be used with Shikakai paste wash your hair.                         Tips -Avoid washing your hair with salt water or chlorinated water. Always rinse your hair completely with fresh water.
